Project Title: How to Create an Awesome Student Art Show
STUDENTS WILL:
• Plan an art show in groups.
• Create invitations to the art show & artwork labels
• Describe their art work at the show or create artist statements
• Create critique forms for the patrons
• Discuss how to display the artwork
• Discuss who to contact & secure a display location
• Discuss who should and when they should periodically check on the artwork
• Discuss who will tear-down the artwork and distribute the artwork back to the
artists

READINESS:
Set:
Teacher will describe a variety of ways to set-up an art shows and give examples of a variety of artwork
tags & artist statement examples.
Objective:
Students will plan an art show in groups, create invitations to the art show, create artwork tags, create artist
statements, discuss how the artwork will be mounted, secure a time and location, & describe their art work
at the show.
INFORMATION:
Teacher Input:
After showing the resources, as a guide to introduce the lesson, the teacher will ask students inductive
questions about the examples shown and relate the questions to the students everyday experiences.
Modeling:
Teacher will show an examples, demonstrate the process, using the student direction sheet/“Helpful
Hints” guide and asking students to read along.
Guided Practice:
Students will be asked to review written directions will be handed-out for the students as a “Helpful
Hints” guide.
ASSESSMENT:
Checking for Understanding:
While the students are working on the project the teacher and/or students will praise all the students
who are showing effort to follow the directions & procedures and gently guide those who need to be
reminded of the steps.
Closure:
Students will be encouraged to make positive comments about other student’s artworks using the
elements & principles of design vocabulary.
Independent Practice:
Students will complete the project and may use the spare time (until the rest of the students complete
the project) to create another artwork practicing the same skills.
